Don’t let the freedom of the skies fool you. Travel by air is just as treacherous as travel by sea. Destructive weather, pirates, and monsters are just as common in the skies of [[Atmos]] as they are on the water. Plus, accidents, poor living conditions, and other dangers known to sailors
happen aboard airships, too.
### Travel Pace
Airships have two main modes of propulsion. The first is the more traditional propeller engines and the other is the magically infused spell jet thrusters used by aether ships.
If an airship’s mode of movement takes damage, there is a possibility that it will be slowed and degraded. See Chapter 4: Airships for each component’s description fordegradation and speed rules.
### Activity While Traveling
Below are a list of actions that the ship, its crew, and passengers can take while traveling.
#### Draw a Map
The [[Navigator]] or [[Airship Captain]] typically performs this activity, though the [[Scoutmaster]] can also perform this activity.
Although the skies are typically free of obstruction, it's still worth creating maps of important landmarks, and routes taken through the skies.
#### Forage
#### Navigate
Airships rely on their [[Navigator|Navigators]] to keep from becoming lost in the skies. [[Navigator|Navigators]] make [[Wisdom]] ([[Survival]]) checks when the GM calls for them.
#### Noticing Threats
Airships rely on their [[Scoutmaster|Scoutmasters]] to swiftly identify threats and prevent the ship from running headfirst into danger.
In the absence of a [[Scoutmaster]] the [[Passive Perception]] scores of the heroes or crew are used to determine whether anyone on the ship notices a hidden threat. The crew has a [[Passive Perception]] score of 10 + the [[Airship Captain|Captain's]] [[Proficiency Bonus]].
The GM might decide that a threat can be noticed only be characters in specific areas of the ship, such as a crow's nest; inversely, characters below deck or within internal areas of the ship may have a tough time noticing dangers.
#### Stealth
The ship's [[Airship Captain|Captain]] can engage in this activity only if the weather conditions restrict visibility or the ship has a component which allows it to move without being seen.
The ship makes a [[Dexterity]] check with a bonus equal to the [[Airship Captain|Captain's]] [[Proficiency Bonus]].
